Stephanie Schardin Clarke was appointed by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to serve as Secretary of Taxation and Revenue in January 2019. She has over 20 years’ experience in State and local government in New Mexico. She previously served as Deputy Cabinet Secretary of the Department of Finance and Administration, Director of the State Board of Finance, Santa Fe County Finance Director, and as an economist for both the Department of Finance and Administration and the Legislative Finance Committee. She earned a Master’s in Economics from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelor’s in Economics from the George Washington University. Ms. Schardin Clarke was raised in Fargo, ND and is the proud mother of two sons.
In July 2023, Secretary Schardin Clarke was elected to serve as Chairperson of the Multistate Tax Commission. She also serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Federation of Tax Administrators, and as a member of the New Mexico Edge Certified Public Manager Program Advisory Board.
