The Legal Services Bureau (LSB) is the General Counsel to the Department. The bureau strives to provide high-quality professional representation consistent with the rules governing the practice of public attorneys.

We provide legal advice, analysis and review on a broad range of issues including tax and motor vehicle matters, personnel, procurement and general state government law. We represent the Department in litigation before administrative bodies and New Mexico state and federal courts. LSB also handles formal protests filed by taxpayers who dispute tax liabilities, refund denials, collection actions or other Tax Administration Act actions.
